Nahanni Mckay & Teenybotanist - Bugaboo Bedtime
In their collaborative exhibition, Coexist, Nahanni McKay and Teenybotanist unite their two art styles, where analogue photography meets digital drawings, and untouched landscapes meet curious oversized forms.
Coexistence is described as “the state of living or existing at the same time or in the same place”. Nahanni’s photographs investigate the fine line between tourism and wildlife, while Teenybotanist's work finds human forms attempting to become one with the land and finding themselves at home in nature. Together, their collaborative works asks us to question the impact of humans on the environment and how we can live in harmony. In the grand scheme of our warming planet, humans are physically small compared to the mountains that surround us, but--in many ways--we are impacting them immensely and must consider the space we take up and the footprints we leave behind.
This series emphasizes Earth as our true home and while it takes care of us, as residents of the land, we must--in turn--take care of it.
because there is no planet B.
Nahanni is a Metis Cree artist and photographer based in Banff, Canada. Born and raised in the Rockies, her creative practice has focused on National Parks in Canada and the human impact on surrounding natural environments.
Teenybotanist is a painter and digital media artist originally from Toronto, Ontario, who now calls the Bow Valley home. She attended OCAD University for Printmaking and Art History, and--after some time apart--the pandemic gently nudged her back towards her creative practice where she can now be found painting her very favourite things: people, places, and plants.
