Shan Leigh Pomeroy - Chroma
My experimental stop-motion animated short film, CHROMA, is a moving portrait of the artist discovering colour; an allegory for self-realization and queer joy. This short was made with ~200+ frames, painstakingly printed, organized, drawn upon with ink and paint pens, then reshot in sequence. CHROMA acknowledges the comfort in simplicity, the spiciness of variety, and the satisfaction of self-discovery through the covering, uncovering, and augmenting of the original underlying images.
The music that accompanies the film was written and recorded by myself using my own voice, offering up another layer of personalization and emphasizing the rhythm imbued into these sequential images. Stop-motion animation provides a unique, tactile means of bringing otherwise static objects to life. Throughout my practice, I have sought out ways to make the most of limited resources in order to achieve ad hoc - albeit fantastical - short films that simultaneously defy and embrace the material world.
