Sudeshna Ghosh - Identity Complexity
Identity Complexity explores the intricacies of the oversized woman's experience within Indian middle-class society, bound by stringent terms and conditions. The oversized nude women, through her unapologetic presence, defies societal expectations and hypocrisies surrounding beauty standards and how women should express themselves.
Through her nudity and the patterned fabric covering her, which also acts as a societal mask, she challenges conventional notions of beauty while subverting the male gaze and the dictated beauty norms set by society. Instead, she becomes a symbol of strength, vulnerability, and defiance, asserting her autonomy within a society that often stifles such aspirations.
The work aims to challenge societal norms and illuminate the dichotomy between the innate power of the feminine and the societal constraints that seek to suppress her. It emphasizes a celebration of women's achievements, intellect, and creativity.
