Taylor Neal - Seasons of Home
Observing the seasons changing from the stability of home can be a magical experience, the way the space changes and transforms along with nature both inside and out. As the seasons change, we utilize different parts and places in our homes: in the winter, we curl up in a dark corner on the couch and turn on the fireplace; in the spring, we fling open the windows and dust off the outdoor furniture to spend our afternoons enjoying the front porch that was buried under snow or lost to us for the previous months; summer has us coming and going in and out of our homes like a revolving door, and the space is used more as a coming-back-to, rather than a dwelling to be in; and then with the coming of fall the cycle slowly repeats as we gravitate back inside.
These photos were taken on one of those fresh-feeling, sun shining in early days of Spring, when no one had anywhere to go so we all sat out on the front porch and felt the mild breeze on our sun-starved skin, still crisp but carrying promises of warmer days to come. This outdoor space hadn’t seen company in months, other than to be used as a portal from the outside world into the warmth of the house, and there was a general feeling of spring cleaning, emptying out the old and welcoming in the new, in the air.
