"People and the places where they reside are engaged in a continuing set of exchanges; they have determinate, mutual effects upon each other because they are part of a single, interactive system." - William S. Sax. This second call for submissions explores the spaces in which we dwell and reside. This collection dives into the concept of home and all that comes with it: the significance of a home, the emotional impact of home, people, places, and things that feel like home, the beauty of architecture, and more.  Outlined below are a few discussion points that helped get the bulbs burning.

  • Living away from home
  • Homesickness​
  • Nomadic lifestyles
  • Availability and proximity of resources
Forms of home:
  • A house/apartment/tiny home/tent/camper
  • A tree/nest/burrow/lodge
  • A feeling/sound/smell
  • The human body, self, or others
Architecture and design:
  • Restoration/renovation/repurposing of old buildings
  • Architectural design, human relationships, and psychology
  • Building materials/architectural salvage
  • Built spaces and the design of necessity
Roots and heritage:
  • Home as a form of isolation
  • Community and the collaborative nature of home
  • The concepts of homeland and patriotism

Emotional connection to place:
  • Connection to certain spaces, both indoor and outdoor, natural and built
  • Negative impacts of home life
