There is within each of us a capacity to hold a cacophony of daemon energy, sometimes spritely, sometimes ghoulish. And that daemon energy is the raw material of our creative essence; it drives us, compels us to shore up or force out. It is unruly and unpredictable, and it is also wildly sublime even in its darkest corners. We call it Fear and the more we attempt to cage it or tame it, the more feral and urgent it rises in froth.
It terrifies us as it masquerades as our truth… it is a sticky thing, Fear in its shadow essence, for the elaborate masks it has fashioned for itself within the landscape of our soul can be so very alluring – and deceiving. Our fear is not our truth, rather it has consumed but a piece of truth to morph its form to present itself as wholly true. It makes us question our own being, our primal creative self in expression, our acceptability. It demands conformance - such a toxic poison to creative expression and authentic being.
We live with its feral unruliness, draining our life force energies, bleeding out our creative being as we try to avoid it, to protect ourselves from it. We keep to the edges, to the shadows, in hopes it won’t find us in our hidden inner spaces.
And, yet…
Fear harnessed, channeled, given direction, rightly seen and heard, respected – recognised in its clearest form and motion – can also be our Sovereign Aide. In its highest vitality, Fear is an agent of inspiration and imaginal expression. It is the fuel of the Wild Heart, of the one that is free. It serves the Wild Heart’s freedom, encourages full roam, unhindered, but in full respect of all other agents and agencies in its midst.
Fear waits for us to choose it, fill its dance card with our presence and interaction. And our freedom to dance with our fear comes when we recognise, we can fully choose on which edge of its expression we partner and dance. Does our creative daemon energy keep us in shadow, or are we ready to dance with it in the light of the flames of our creative genius in expression?

Our third collection focused on Fear, that “toxic poison to creative expression and authentic being”, as inspired by Carrie A. Lee’s introductory text. To have contributed to this collection, artists must first have read the collection's introduction and then respond in the medium of their choosing. Fear is “a sticky thing” and best to mold it by our own hands, to control it within our grip, than to step in it almost knowingly—as it is never quite forgotten when left unattended.
